Featured in "Subaqua" dive magazine n° 197, the DCP offers a unique, challenging yet very rewarding dive.
Pratically everyone has read, heard or spoken of diving in the Blue. Of experiencing vertigo while diving without any references, entirely in the open ocean - the infinity.
With the Imperator, a first class open seas ship, you can experience this sensation for yourselves.
Need to know:
- The currents can be very strong at the DCP
- There is animal life all along the installation (crabs come as larvae, as do small fish)
- The aim of the DCP is to attract large pelagic ocean fish (Tuna, Mahi Mahi/Dolphin fish, sharks, spurred fish such as the sword fish, etc...)
- This is not a deep dive with the normal max being about10m, as you will be able to see the fish coming up only 1m depth! The visibility is also truly excellent.
- You must take into account the exceptional depth outside the reef and securely fasten all equipment (video and photo cameras etc)
Precautions :
- For your pleasure and safety, we can only accept divers with adequate training and experince due to it being over great depths.
- An Advanced certification + 50 dives minimum is therefore required, with all your own necessary equipment (inflatable air bag alert, mirror, computer..).
All divers must equally display adequate physical ability and required medical certificates for diving.
- Other than that, a self assurance and regard for safety (taking in account "rule of thirds") and other necessary precautions.
Please note that a medical certificate and diving insurance are obligatory for this activity.
Below are extracts (unfortunately in French) from the Subaqua article with illustrations of the DCP; some of the fish encountered there; and its location about 1hour 40 from Noumea.
